Lost art, a phrase used to describe an art or craft that is no longer practiced. What it produces is either no longer a part of our culture or is mass produced by machines.
This site contains images of the work of Deborah Heidel. Educated in architecture at North Carolina State University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology along with her architectural career she has kept a constant dialog with her art work. She has exhibited in New York and Atlanta mostly at non-profit spaces and received several awards as well as a grant from Fulton County Arts Council.
Much of the work here blurs the line between painting and sculpture. The three-dimensionality of the pieces reflects the architectural background of the artist. Like architecture the pieces are built slowly out of many different materials using many different techniques with an attention to fine craftsmanship.
Retrieving images from dreams, using visual/verbal puns, juxtaposing disparate images and other Surrealist strategies are all employed in this quirky body of work.
